Subject: Request for Verification of Sugar Content, Nutrition Labelling and Consumer Information on Packaged Beverage Products Respected Sir/Madam, My name is Abhinav Krishnan, and I am from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. I am submitting this complaint/request for verification regarding the sugar content, nutrition information, labelling and consumer communication of the following commonly available packaged beverage products in India: 1. 7UP 2. Pepsi 3. Mirinda 4. Mountain Dew 5. Frooti My concern is primarily related to whether the declared nutritional information, particularly total sugar and added sugar, is accurate, clearly presented and compliant with the applicable FSSAI regulations. The Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations require prescribed nutritional information to be provided on applicable pre-packaged foods. The regulations include information such as energy, carbohydrate, total sugars and added sugars, along with the applicable reference values for nutrition information. I therefore respectfully request to: 1. Verify the declared total sugar and added sugar content of the above-mentioned products against their actual composition through appropriate sampling/testing, where considered necessary. 2. Verify whether the nutrition information printed on the packaging accurately represents the product's composition. 3. Verify whether the products comply with all applicable Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations and other relevant FSSAI standards. 4. Examine whether the serving-size information and percentage contribution to RDA presented on the labels are accurate and not misleading to consumers. 5. Examine the ingredients list, nutrition panel, declarations and other mandatory information on the packaging for compliance. 6. Where applicable, examine whether any advertising, promotional or nutritional claims associated with these products comply with the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018. 7. Provide information regarding the findings of the inspection/testing and any regulatory action considered necessary if non-compliance is detected. My purpose in submitting this complaint is to promote transparent food labelling and informed consumer choice, particularly because these products are widely consumed by the general public, including young consumers.
